I am constantly moved by women who have defied odds, set new trends, and opened new doors for girls around the world. Somali fashion mogul, actress and entrepreneur Iman is my #WCW. She is one of the world’s first supermodels of color, and undeniably Africa’s first global supermodel. A true visionary, she pioneered the field of ethnic cosmetics when she launched Iman Cosmetics to serve people of color in 1994.
Iman is also actively involved in a number of charitable endeavors, currently serving as a spokesperson for the Keep a Child Alive program and as an Ambassador for Save the Children.
Aside from her fierceness, I admire her strength, tenacity and courage. She is one of this century’s icons, and an embodiment of the quintessential African woman.
Below are some of my all-time favorite shots of the icon. Enjoy!
